The Delphian School Chess Team News
On Saturday, March 3rd, the chess club went to the Whitford chess tournament in
Beaverton, Oregon, a hotbed of chess talent. The portion of the tournament they
entered was divided up in two sections: K-6th grade and 7th-12th grade. Of the two
groups, it was the older team that really were stars. Brad Morris took 2nd place,
Robert Gutknecht took 3rd and Leandro Seto took 4th. Each brought home a trophy.
As a group, they took 1st place in the team category.
The tournament director told James Horton, the Chess Club's leader, how impressed
he was not just with the students' talent, but with their superlative behavior as
well.
